Students Arriving LATE or LEAVING EARLY

  • Must sign In/Out by scanning the QR Code at the Attendance Window

Line 1 - EARLY RELEASE (Getting out of class early for an appointment, etc.)

  • Please give a MINIMUM OF 2 HOURS NOTICE.
  • If the minimum 2 hours is not given, we cannot guarantee a timely release.
  • Students are responsible for picking up their pass from the Attendance Window.
  • Students can pick up passes before school, during passing periods or lunch period.
  • Whenever possible, please have your student released during passing periods or lunch and no pass is needed.
  • No early release passes are written after 1:15 on Monday-Thursday, 2:00 on Friday.
  • Passes will not be delivered.

Line 2 - TARDY/LATE ARRIVAL (arriving late to class)

  • Tardies are considered as missing less than half of a class period, while an absence is missing more than half of a class period.

Line 3 - ALL DAY ABSENCE/ALL OTHER (out all day with illness, travel, previous day absence)

  • Excusals must be called in within a 48-HOUR period following the absence.
  • All absences not excused within the 48-hour time frame will be considered unexcused. Additional approval will be needed from an administrator to get an absence excused.

Student becomes ill at school

  • If a student becomes ill while in class, the student must inform the teacher and be excused to leave class to come to the health room in the Main Office.
  • The Health Assistant will notify the parent(s) of the student's illness and that they can pick up the student at that time.
  • The Main Office WILL NOT send passes to students who are feeling ill.

Extended Absences

  • If a student will be absent more than 3 days for any reason other than an emergency or medical reason, the student needs to pick up an Advanced Absence Form in the Main Office
  • The Advanced Absence Form must be signed by all of the student's teachers, parents, and the student's Assistant Principal for approval before the absence begins.
  • Students are responsible for all assignments and exams missed during the days missed.

Parents may not excuse students for missing class because the student is "unprepared, needs to work on another class, or do volunteer work." This is considered an unexcused absence.

Incorrect Attendance Coding

  • If an attendance marking is incorrectly (i.e. a student was marked absent but was only tardy) the student will need to resolve this with the appropriate teacher.
  • The teacher will then notify the Attendance Secretary to make the appropriate corrections.

Extreme Emergencies ONLY

  • Please call the Main Office line, 303-387-3000. We will be able to release your student(s) in a more timely manner.

Athletics and Activities require daily attendance

  • Coaches and sponsors will release students from class on the day for the athletic event or activity.

Special Education records which have been collected by Douglas County School District related to the identification, evaluation, educational placement, or the provision of special education in the district, must be maintained under state and federal laws for the period of five (5) years after special education services have ended for the student. Special education services end when the student is no longer eligible for services, graduates, or completes his/her educational program at age 21, or moves from the district. This notification is to inform parents/guardians and former students of Douglas County School District's intent to destroy the special education records of students who exited special education services as of June 30, 2016.
